Kanjira drumming style is characterized by fast playing
of complex repetitions of patterns from the South Indian,
Carnatic music system. One hand plays patterns (usually
using a split-hand technique), while the other hand balances
the frame and pitch blends by squeezing the head. The small
diameter frame is traditionally fitted with a lizard (now
endangered) skin and a single set of jingles. Cooperman
has adapted this model with the features that enhance our
range of jingled drums tuneability and a synthetic head.
Our shell is turned with a barrel-section profile for a
comfortable balance. A precision bearing edge combined
with a REMO synthetic head create the characteristic mix
of a warm bass on a highly tuned drum.
